folkwang is...seeing the good things. By Svenja Rademacher
It's not easy to be torn away from your everyday life so suddenly and to have to spend your time without the social contacts that are so important and the cultural events that you love so much. But it's not just about sensitivities. Freelance artists and young professionals who are just starting out are hit particularly hard because their prospects are uncertain and their livelihoods are under real threat.
In contrast, I am in the privileged position of having enough money for rent and shopping and being able to spend time in my parents' house, which includes a beautiful garden. For me, being at home means having a lot of time for my housework and research and being able to change my workplace and perspective more often.
Our garden has become my library, but unfortunately the selection of books is limited. Fortunately, the internet still allows me to exchange work materials or occasionally meet up for a digital coffee. In addition, there is suddenly unexpected time to plant a vegetable garden in the beautiful weather, sew masks and spend time with the cat and the rest of the family.
