The Folkwang University of the Arts attaches great importance to sociopolitical aspects in its funding policy. Below you can find an overview of internal and external funding opportunities for students in special circumstances of life.

Subsidies

Project fund "Anti-discrimination and equality"

The “Anti-discrimination and Equality” project fund supports projects by students, lecturers and technical and administrative staff that deal with anti-discrimination and equality issues at the Folkwang University of the Arts.

Folkwang Care Fund

The Folkwang Care Fund is a financial support program for students at the Folkwang University of the Arts. In special compatibility situations, the care of children and/or relatives requiring care can be subsidized.

Deutschlandstipendium with funding focus family”


The Deutschlandstipendium with the funding focus “family” provide relief for students in parental roles with a low income. Parents can apply for the scholarship once a year and receive a one-year grant of €300/month if their application is successful - provided that they can be classified as financially disadvantaged and are not on leave from their studies.

Deutschlandstipendien are awarded taking into account special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, caring for own children (especially as a single parent) or close relatives in need of care, working in the family business, gainful employment while studying, (social) background/identity or international biography.

Deutschlandstipendium with the funding focus students with disabilities


The Deutschlandstipendium with a focus on “students with disabilities” provide support for students with disabilities and physical and/or mental impairments. Students can apply for the scholarship once a year and receive a one-year grant of €300/month if their application is successful - provided they can be classified as financially disadvantaged and are not on leave from their studies.

Germany Scholarships are awarded taking into account special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, caring for own children (especially as a single parent) or close relatives in need of care, working in the family business, gainful employment while studying, (social) background/identity or international biography.

External scholarship offers

Federal Foundation - Mother and Child

 

Pregnant women in emergency situations can receive unbureaucratic additional financial support from the Federal Foundation for Mothers and Children. The foundation's funds are granted, for example, for the initial equipment of the child, the continuation of the household, housing and furnishings as well as the care of small children. Applications can be submitted via local advice centers. The respective offices can be found via DAJEB (please select “Acceptance of applications for the Federal Foundation ‘Mother and Child’” as the main area of advice).

Foundation for the support of new mothers

 

Women who have just had a child and are in financially disadvantaged can apply for a one-off grant of €500. The applicant must live in Essen. Please note: the application can only be submitted within three months of the birth!

Scholarship on-site presence

 

The “On-site” scholarship is intended to help people resume their artistic work (after completing their studies) during the parenting phase. It is awarded every two years. Female musicians living and working independently in North Rhine-Westphalia - with one or more children under the age of 14 - are eligible to apply.
